OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (WTNH) — The Old Saybrook Police Commission voted in a new chief of police during a special meeting on Thursday evening.
Former Hamden Deputy Chief of Police William Onofrio will now serve as the Old Saybrook Police Department's chief of police.
"I'm very thankful, this means a lot to me," Onofrio said on Thursday. "I wanted to begin by expressing my sincere gratitude to the board for entrusting confidence and appointing me as the next chief of Old Saybrook. This is both an honor and a responsibility that I don't take lightly."
This appointment comes months after the former chief of police retired amid an investigation into the police department.
