The ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X are now available for pre-order — launching on October 16 at $599 (£499) and $999 (£799) respectively. That is indeed a steep price (especially on the X), but given the demand, I don’t see these hanging around for long.

Because in my own testing, they’re two of the best Windows 11 handhelds you can buy. It’s honestly surprising how much extra performance you can experience when you get that bloated desktop OS out of the way. The AMD Ryzen Z2A in the standard Ally manages to handle indie and some AAA titles well, while the Ryzen Z2 AI Extreme eats any game for breakfast.
