A man has been charged after US authorities tipped off Australian law enforcement about a 55-year-old allegedly attempting to solicit sexually explicit images of a child.

The Northern Territory man allegedly believed he was meeting a 14-year-old girl from the US online but was instead connecting with an undercover law enforcement officer from Homeland Security Investigations.

The Northern Territory Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (NT JACET) was contacted by US authorities in March 2025 and an investigation began.

Police have accused the 55-year-old man of attempting to procure a child to engage in sexual activity and sending indecent messages to an underage person.

The man's home in Humpty Doo, around 40 kilometres southeast of Darwin, was searched in April 2025.
