Victorian crime rates have continued to soar to record levels despite the Allan government’s bail reforms taking effect in March.

Victoria Police arrested 1,128 child offenders aged from 10 to 17 a combined 7,118 times, with total arrests increasing by 26.7 per cent from the previous year.

Victoria's new Police Commissioner has set a target of reducing crime by five per cent each year.

“There is no doubt this will be a challenge, but we are confident that in the foreseeable future the crime will reduce.” Deputy Commissioner Robert Hill announced at a press conference.

The second round of bail law reforms is due to come into effect next year.
