SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Sioux Falls and Rapid City are hoping to secure a significant portion of settlement money the state received from pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies, including CVS, Walgreens, and Purdue.

But the Department of Social Services and the Attorney General are at odds over how settlement funds are being distributed.

On Wednesday, a Rapid City alderman spoke to the committee responsible for planning the allocation of the money, once again pushing for money to be handled by South Dakota’s biggest cities.

According to the Department of Social Services, the state currently has around $17 million dedicated to opioid addiction recovery. The Attorney General’s Office secured around $79 million in total that will continue to trickle in over the next couple
