SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - In the week since the surprise announcement that Christ the King Elementary School would be closing its doors after the school year, parents have united in an effort to save the school .

A petition with 1,000 signatures got the attention of the Bishop O’Gorman School District and led to a meeting on Thursday evening.

The meeting took place at the O’Gorman High School Performing Arts Center, which has a capacity of 940 people. Parents packed the room, seeking a productive conversation and a chance for input that they felt they never got.

A prayer before the meeting set the tone for concerned parents.

“By the time I was coming here today, I just had to say, ‘I’ve done everything I can do. It’s in God’s hands now,’” said parent Tracy Cota-Teerink.
