WEDDINGTON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A student at Weddington Middle School was charged with a felony after being accused of making a false threat report at the school Thursday afternoon.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office says that at approximately 3 p.m., Union County 911 received a call from a cellphone located within Weddington Middle reporting that a student had been shot on campus. The assigned UCSO school resource officer was already on site when the call came in, and within minutes, several additional deputies arrived.

Deputies say after a thorough search, no weapons were found, and it was determined that no shooting had occurred. The sheriff’s office determnined this was a false report or a hoax.

The subsequent investigation confirmed that the call came from a 13-year-old studen
