HARLINGEN, Texas (Border Report) -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection say they confiscated $13 million in methamphetamine concealed in a truck hauling a shipment of soft drinks.

The agency says the haul was discovered Monday at the Roma International Bridge, when a tractor-trailer tried to cross into South Texas from Miguel Aleman, Mexico.

The drugs allegedly were found inside the beverage shipment and totaled nearly 1,500 pounds, the agency said.

“This large seizure of methamphetamine illustrates the seriousness of the drug threat we face every day and the resolve of our frontline officers to utilize technology and experience to prevent this poison from entering our country,” Roma Port Director Andres Guerra said.
