MT. VERNON, Ill. (WSIL) -- Jefferson County 911 Operator Grace Cole received a Letter of Commendation from her supervisor Jason McIlrath for her exceptional work during a murder investigation.

The commendation, issued by Jefferson County Sheriff Bullard, recognized Cole's outstanding performance on September 1, when she managed a solo desk duty. The sheriff's office said her calm and professional response when receiving a call about a suspected murder and suspect vehicle description was crucial in confirming the crime and facilitating the quick apprehension of the offender.

"This type of performance from criminal justice employees is vital for optimal service to our county! Congratulations Grace! A well earned award!" the sheriff's office stated.
