SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the 19 Medal of Honor recipients from the Battle of Wounded Knee will keep their medals and not have them vacated as some Native American activists had suggested.

“The soldiers who fought in the Battle of Wounded Knee in 1890 will keep their medals,” Hegseth said in a video posted on X on Thursday.

As many as 300 Lakota People died in the massacre on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
