LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Alexander Lopez was sentenced to 42 years in prison Thursday night for his role in the murder of Gerardo Nino in 2022.

On day 3 of Lopez’s sentencing trial, psychologists testified that Lopez’s home may have contributed to his involvement in gang activity. At the same time, the defense argued that incidents involving Lopez could be linked to his time spent in the Webb County Jail adult division as a teenager.

Lopez was just 15 years old when placed in the Webb County Jail adult division.

On Monday, Sept. 22, Lopez had pleaded guilty to murdering Nino.

Lopez’s sentencing trial was being held in the 341st District Court.
