STEVENSON, Wash. — The beautiful thing about the Pacific Northwest is you don't have to go far to find treasure. For some, that treasure is hidden in the forest floor.
In Skamania County, Dina Grinstead has made mushroom foraging her hobby for almost a decade.
"It's like a treasure hunt," she said. "I either dry them or we cook them, make soup."
Right now, it's chanterelle season, along with lobster mushrooms and boletes. But with little rain this year, the pickings are slimmer than usual.
With all her experience, Dina gladly yields the floor to her 8-year-old son, Felix. Besides being a fungi enthusiast, he really knows his stuff.
"Did you know there can be mushroom worms that eat mushrooms and make them moldy?" Felix explained. "My favorite part about it is having fun in the forest
