MONMOUTH, Ore. — Forty-one dogs were rescued in Monmouth after being discovered in unsanitary conditions, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Oregon Humane Society.

On Sept. 11, police received a call about a stray puppy in poor health near McCaleb Road in Monmouth. A member of the animal control unit was familiar with a woman she had been working with over the years who had the same breed of dogs as that puppy. She then contacted the owner, Jeanette Case, with the Polk County Sheriff's Office noting unsuitable living conditions and a lack of standards of care for those dogs.

On Tuesday, around 8:30 p.m., police and 12 members of the Oregon Humane Society (OHS) returned to the house, rescuing 41 dogs who had been "lacking in socialization and care," according to the sheriff
