It has been a longer wait than Kaitlyn Srhoj expected to play her first AFLW game in her home State, but the Mandurah product feels like a kid on Christmas Eve ahead of her homecoming.

But while absence has made the heart grow fonder for her home city, the young GWS Giants star has embraced the independence of living out of home and grown comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Scooped up by the Giants with the third pick in the 2023 AFLW draft, Srhoj is set to play her first game on home soil when GWS take on West Coast Eagles at Mineral Resources Park on Sunday.

It is GWS’ first AFLW game in WA since 2021 and after missing out on playing back home in her debut season, Srhoj said she was expecting a legion of family and friends to make the trek to Lathlain.
