Next month, a retired police officer will get the gift of a kidney from another Northern Virginia law enforcement officer he never met during their years of service in neighboring counties.

Bucky Barlow was a Fairfax County police officer and major crimes detective before serving with the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office. Joni Jaeger had a long career in the Prince William County Police Department and now works for the Prince William County Sheriff’s Office.

But it was a Facebook post from a member of the Northern Virginia law enforcement community that brought them together as Jaeger decided to donate one of her kidneys to Barlow after their blood types matched.
