BOISE, Idaho — A suspect is in the hospital after being shot by police on Thursday evening after firing at officers during a vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash, authorities said.

The Caldwell Police Department (CPD) said the incident began around 7:17 p.m. when a Caldwell police officer attempted to stop a vehicle near Linden and Indiana streets for a traffic violation. The driver fled, prompting the pursuit.

CPD said during the chase, the suspect began shooting at officers, which continued throughout the pursuit.

The chase ended when the suspect crashed at the intersection of Birchwood and Pleasant Ridge roads. Police said that, following the crash, the suspect was shot by police.
