Punjab Assembly condemns Centre’s Rs 1,600 crore flood relief package

Chandigarh, September 26, 2025: On the opening day of the special Vidhan Sabha session, Punjab Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal moved a resolution strongly condemning the Centre’s announcement of ₹1,600 crore as financial relief to the state, terming it as “hardly a token amount” compared to the Punjab government’s demand for at least ₹20,000 crore.

In the resolution, Goyal urged the Union Finance Ministry to reconsider its decision and enhance the relief package, stating that the quantum announced was insufficient to handle the flood crisis.
