GEORGE SPRINGER sparked controversy after appearing to accuse Major League Baseball of fixing games.

The Toronto Blue Jays star made the claim after being left fuming with an umpire decision on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox .

The Blue Jays are currently the league leaders, a position they have held for two months.

However, that gap has been closing as the season draws to its end with the New York Yankees closing in.

Springer hit what appeared to be a bases loaded double in the second inning of the game, only for the umpire to call it a foul ball.

The 36-year-old then struck out on a pitch outside the zone.

Sportsnet then picked up Springer ranting to Blue Jays manager John Schneider in the dugout during the next inning.
