PHILADELPHIA — When the Eagles headed to Tampa Bay last season with a 2-1 record, Cooper DeJean was still a rookie second-round pick with everything to prove.

After suffering a hamstring injury during an offseason training activity, the start of his first training camp was delayed and his opportunity to win a starting job as the slot cornerback on opening day vanished.

It went to Avonte Maddox instead.

Every Eagles fan knows what happened after that.

During the Week 5 bye, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio decided DeJean was ready to join the rest of the starters and the rookie went from playing eight defensive snaps in the Eagles’ first four games to playing 52 in the team’s Week 6 win over the Cleveland Browns. He was terrific and he just kept getting better.
