The city of Fairbanks finance committee is looking at ways to increase its revenue by at least 10% through non-tax sources over three years.

One possible luck of the draw might be a municipal lottery — but it’s still a long way from being a sure bet, said Chief Financial Officer Margarita Bell.

“Nothing is finalized,” Bell said following a Thursday finance meeting. “We are trying to see if it does fit into the city model and what that would look like.”

If it’s an acceptable wager, the finance committee would forward it to the City Council for consideration.

During the finance meeting, Bell laid out some clarifying factors after speaking with the Alaska Department of Revenue’s tax division on regulations that govern the state’s charitable gambling regulations.
