KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

Two people are in critical condition after a Thursday evening crash that investigators believe started with excessive speed.

Kansas City, Missouri, police said a burgundy Honda Civic was northbound on U.S. 71 near Red Bridge Road just before 4 p.m. Thursday when it was involved in a crash. Advertisement

Investigators said the Civic was driving at speeds over 100 miles per hour. The driver had been weaving between vehicles and passing too closely. At one point, the driver overcorrected to avoid a crash, which sent the Civic into a skid.

Police said the vehicle skidded between the first lane and the emergency lane before overturning and rolling at least three times.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle.
