Sundre RCMP have issued a shelter-in-place order for the town after receiving reports of a male with a firearm wandering in the community.
Residents are asked to remain in their homes, avoid opening their doors, and refrain from posting photos of responding officers on social media.
Local schools are on lockdown, and buses have stopped in safe locations. RCMP say buses will not be picking up additional students and the public should not attend schools at this time.
Police stress the order is precautionary, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
“We understand how situations such as this can make a community feel uneasy, but rest assured your Alberta RCMP is doing what they can to ensure everyone is safe,” RCMP said in a release.
