BEDFORD, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Bedford County duo who pleaded no contest to 50 charges for animal abuse and neglect are expected to be sentenced Friday.

Nyal and Renee Piper entered into a plea agreement in June. It was an open plea, meaning the decision rests solely with the judge. They could be sentenced to over 180 years in prison, but that's only if they receive the maximum penalty.

The couple initially faced over 500 charges each for the abuse and neglect of nearly 100 dogs, cats and a turtle living in deplorable conditions. That dropped down to only 50 charges each after they entered a plea agreement of no-contest back in June.
