The U.S. Coast Guard has released video of the rescue of a man who suffered a medical episode aboard a cruise ship off the coast of South Jersey earlier this week.

The 73-year-old passenger was airlifted from the Carnival Venezia about 11:35 p.m. Monday by crew members who lowered a stretcher to the ship from a military helicopter, the video shows.

The MH-65 Dolphin helicopter then flew the man to a trauma center at a hospital in Atlantic City, military officials said.

Shortly after 10 p.m., authorities received a report of a man in need of medical attention aboard the Venezia cruise ship, according to a spokesperson for the Coast Guard.

The distress call was made about 30 miles off the coast of Atlantic City.
