Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins announced a new initiative targeting undocumented immigrants who operate large semi-trucks and do not speak English.

Collins explained that this crackdown follows an incident in which a truck driver attempted a U-turn at a turnaround area on the Florida Turnpike in St. Lucie County, leading to the deaths of two individuals.

According to FLHSMV, investigators later discovered that Singh, the semi-truck driver, unlawfully entered the U.S. in 2018 by crossing the Mexican border.

The Florida Highway Patrol is now enforcing the federal English requirement for commercial truck drivers.
