The club announced Friday morning it had signed James Reimer to a professional tryout contract, seeking to shore up depth after Woll took leave from the team this week for personal reasons. Article content Article content

Reimer, 37, was a virtual unknown who broke in with the Leafs in 2010 and did quite well on a mediocre team that only made one playoff appearance.

Nicknamed ‘Optimus Reim,’ he still ranks 11th in franchise history with 207 wins and the rural Manitoban’s ever-sunny outlook to the game and life in general endeared him to teammates and fans.
