PALATKA, Fla. — Folks on the First Coast could soon see a lot more ships floating through Downtown Jacksonville and down the St. Johns River, and it's all thanks to a proposed renovation project in Putnam County.
For the first time in over 50 years, Port Putnam is set for a complete makeover. The Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to move forward with applying for $10 million worth of state grants to make much needed upgrades.
This entire project at Port Putnam is designed to accommodate larger ships and shipments traveling in and out of the St. Johns River, which means more ships passing under the Main Street Bridge and increased water traffic throughout the St. Johns River.
