CLEVELAND, Ohio – This month, my husband and I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary.

It’s not a milestone number, and it’s not that impressive of an accomplishment.

In 2018, half of Americans in a first marriage were married for at least 21 years , according to the National Center for Family & Marriage Research at Bowling Green State University.

The National Center for Health Statistics found that that 78% of college-educated women who married for the first time between 2006 and 2010 could expect their marriages to last at least 20 years.

While “gray divorce” – divorce among folks 65 and older has jumped from 5% in 1990 to 15% today , divorce rates overall are on the decline.
