SANTA CLARA — Brock Purdy might be limited , but Mac Jones is even more limited.

That's how 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan described the situation regarding the quarterbacks during his appearance Thursday afternoon on KNBR's "Dirty Work" radio show .

Shanahan expressed cautious optimism that Purdy will return to the starting lineup when the 49ers play the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium.

“I think it’s feeling better each day,” Shanahan said of Purdy. “And if that continues, he should be good on Sunday. But hopefully that continues. It’s always delicate with the toe.”

During the period of practice Thursday that is open to the media, Purdy took the first snaps ahead of Jones.
