NORMAN — Oklahoma attorney general and 2026 gubernatorial candidate Genter Drummond issued an official commendation Thursday that pertains to OU football.

Drummond praised Dr. Steven Shin, the surgeon at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles who operated on Sooner quarterback John Mateer’s injured hand Wednesday.

Mateer reportedly broke a bone in his hand during the first quarter of the Sooners’ win over Auburn last Saturday. He returned from surgery in Los Angeles to Oklahoma on Thursday but a timetable for his return to play has not been established.

In the meantime, Shin has gained a cult following from OU fans on social media who are hoping his surgical expertise will get Mateer back on the field sooner than later. Drummond’s commend
