TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A federal grant is bringing more sidewalks to the city of Tuscaloosa.

The $800,000 grant will go towards the Ash Street Sidewalk Project. Ash Street runs behind the Benjamin Barnes YMCA.

The project will add nearly 800 feet of sidewalk to an area that’s considered “high pedestrian use,” according to the city.

That should make things safer for non-drivers in the area.

The new sidewalk will begin at the “Y”, run along Ash Street, turn onto Pine Street and end at Elm Street.

It better connects the YMCA and McDonald Hughes Center next door to the newly renovated Kaulton Park which is two blocks away.
