Former Detroit Red Wings goaltender James Reimer is back where he started his NHL career – at least temporarily.

Reimer on Friday signed a professional tryout with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Leafs needed another goalie because starter Joseph Woll is away from the team due to personal reasons.

Reimer, 37, went 11-8-2 in 25 appearances with the Red Wings in 2023-24, posting a 3.11 goals-against average and .904 save percentage as one of three goalies on the roster, along with Ville Husso and Alex Lyon.

Reimer signed with Buffalo last season, was claimed by Anaheim off waivers and then reclaimed by the Sabres on waivers. He went 10-10-2 with a 3.04 GAA and .896 save percentage.

Reimer spent his first six NHL seasons with the Leafs.
