PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The proposal to rename a portion of a Longview road in honor of conservative advocate Charlie Kirk is no more.
In an email, Mayor Spencer Boudreau told KOIN 6 he planned to strike down Resolution 25-78 earlier this week. A majority of Longview City Council supported his motion to pull the proposal from the agenda of its public meeting held on Thursday evening.
Council Member Erik Halvorson introduced the measure, which was supported by Council Member Keith Young, less than two weeks after Kirk was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University.
The proposal would have renamed the section of Maple Street from Olympia Way to Washington Way to “Charlie Kirk Way.” This would have affected Lower Columbia College, with its address listed at 1600 Maple St.
