KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An Overland Park man is riding 700 miles on his bike to raise money for cancer research after he was diagnosed with lung cancer.
In March 2024, shortly after Mike Scanlon retired and planned to travel, he began a different journey. He was diagnosed with Stage IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
As a lifelong non-smoker, he said the news was shocking.
"An MRI for back pain revealed the cancer had spread to my spine, pelvis, liver, lymph nodes in my neck, and fractured several ribs," Scanlon said on GoFundMe.
