DUBUQUE, Iowa — A house fire on Thursday night resulted in significant damage after a kitchen fire was reported at 9:57 PM, according to the Dubuque Emergency Communications Center. The Dubuque Fire Department quickly responded, with firefighters arriving on the scene within four minutes.
Smoke was visible from the roof, and a working fire was declared. The response was upgraded to a full alarm, bringing a total of 19 firefighters to the scene. As the investigation began, the fire intensified, blowing out kitchen and living room windows.
Fire crews successfully extinguished the blaze within five minutes of attack. The fire was caused by unattended cooking oil, rendering the home uninhabitable with an estimated loss of $60,000. The Red Cross provided lodging for the displaced family.
