The first fans began lining up outside UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex before 9 a.m. Friday, and 90 minutes before practice, the FedEx rink bleachers were nearly full.

There were dozens in black and gold jerseys with the No. 29 on the back and others from Vegas, Chicago and Minnesota, plus more than one in a Team Canada sweater.

A few people pressed up against the glass and held handmade poster-board signs, including one that read, “We came all the way from Canada to see you come home.”

They all came to a weekday Penguins training camp practice just to see “Flower.”

And when Marc-Andre Fleury stepped onto the ice a little before noon, the crowd of more than 300 people inside the team’s practice facility began to chant his name.
