COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)- Hurricane Helene devastated the southeast in 2024. Its slow movement caused more widespread damage than a typical tropical cyclone would produce.
In Georgia, at least $5.5 billion was lost in agricultural and timber industries. A report done by UGA found that 33% of the Georgia 2024 cotton crop has been destroyed by the storm.
Georgia’s timber crop was severely impacted. A study by the Georgia Forestry Commission found a loss of $1.28 billion
Pecans also took a significant hit, with many completely uprooted. Roughly ⅓ of the counties that produce the state’s pecans were impacted by the storm.
