MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ga. — Nearly a year after Hurricane Helene tore through South Georgia, the damage it left behind remains deeply felt—especially among pecan farmers struggling to recover from what's dubbed as one of the worst agricultural disasters in recent state history.
The Georgia Farm Bureau reported that pecans were one of the hardest-hit crops, second only to timber in devastation, highlighting the widespread impact on the state’s agriculture.
In 2024, 13WMAZ visited a Montgomery County pecan orchard to document the lasting impact of the storm and hear firsthand from those battling to rebuild.
Arren Moses, a local pecan grower in Montgomery County, said the losses at his orchard were severe, losing 80% of his crop.
“If it had been a few weeks later we could have salvaged
