It’s been over five years since Zdeno Chara last donned the spoked-B out on the ice for the Bruins.

But the presence that the 6-foot-9 blueliner carried both on the frozen sheet and in the dressing room — coupled with the lessons he imparted on his teammates — still resonates to this day for Charlie McAvoy.

“Every day, he brought it. Like every single day, he led by example,” McAvoy said Friday at Warrior Ice Arena.”He was the hardest-working guy out there. He’s in the gym early, and he’s doing more. He’s here early, leaves late. You just saw what it meant to him, and that was how he led.

“You saw just how he prepared, how he treated the game, what it meant to him, how he treated everybody around you. That was his superpower.”
