CLAREMONT, N.H. —
Claremont school officials have confirmed that the district is facing a deficit of more than $5 million.
Officials had been estimating that the district was facing a budget hole between $2 million and $5 million as they raised concerns about being able to complete the school year.
As the district has been working on ways to cut costs, it said it uncovered the exact amount of the deficit through an internal review led by the interim business administrator. The $5 million figure was expected to be presented at this week's school board meeting, but the meeting was postponed.
The district said the internal review was able to identify a number of areas in the budget where controls could be tightened, but officials did not give any specific examples.
