LAKE LURE, N.C. — More pet collars that once adorned the Rainbow Bridge in Lake Lure were found just days before the one year mark of Hurricane Helene.

Contractors working to restore the Lake Lure boat marina made the discovery on Thursday, September 25.

The discovery came two days before the one year mark since Hurricane Helene caused widespread damage including the destruction of the beloved Rainbow Bridge. The bridge was once located on the grounds of the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge. LLFB volunteer Becky Melton says the newly found collars will be counted in the coming days.

The bridge signifies a mythical location where pets cross to enter heaven. Thousands of pet collars once hung on the beloved Rainbow Bridge. 135 collars have previously been recovered and cataloged.
