The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice on a plea seeking transfer of trial in a hit-and-run case, in which the accused is a judicial magistrate, from Punjab to Delhi.
The family of the victim has expressed apprehension about getting a fair trial in the state, as the case involves a judicial officer from the same district in Punjab.
According to the plea, the 32-year-old victim died in February this year after he was hit by a car allegedly driven by the magistrate. He was travelling from Hoshiarpur to Phagwara. The victim’s sister lodged a complaint but the family alleged that the police initially recorded the accused as an “unknown person” in the FIR.
