Durham Region's local council is pushing for the release of a six-year investigation into its police force for allegations of misconduct, harassment and abuse of power, but none of the agencies in the region say they have authority to release the report.
The investigation by the Ontario Civilian Police Commission (OCPC) in the Durham Regional Police Service was finalized this July, but findings were only shared with the DRPS, the police board and Ontario's solicitor general.
Any investigation into possible police corruption needs to be shared with the public to build back trust in the police force, said Sterling Lee, regional counselor for the Town of Ajax.
