While travel to the United States from Canada may be slowing, Greater Victoria is seeing the opposite, with the region’s visitor economy reaching decade highs this summer.

Destination Greater Victoria says hotels and other accommodations had their strongest summer in at least 10 years, setting benchmarks for occupancy, average daily rates, and revenue per available room.

August occupancy hit 94.3 per cent, up more than four points from the same month last year. Year-to-date occupancy now sits at 79.9 per cent, also a 10-year high.

The average daily room rate in August topped $396, while revenue per available room climbed above $374.

The influx in visitors extended well beyond hotels.
