SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. —

It's been almost a week since jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. suffered a serious injury during a race at Churchill Downs.

WLKY Sports Director Kent Taylor sat down with the Derby-winning jockey to discuss his recovery after the scary fall.

Hernandez was riding in the third race on Sunday when his colt got hurt and threw him off.

Now, after spending four days in the hospital, Hernandez is back on his farm in Simpsonville recovering.

Hernandez said he knew right away this injury was different.

While being tended to by EMTs at the racetrack, he said he would try to make a sound but nothing would come out. A collapsed lung was on his list of injuries.
