HUNT COUNTY, Texas — People moving to one of the fastest-growing counties in Texas will soon have two fewer options for emergency care after Hunt County's hospital system announced this week it will close two freestanding emergency rooms, leaving the county with just one emergency center.
The Hunt Memorial Hospital District Board of Directors decided Tuesday to close the freestanding emergency rooms in Quinlan and Commerce, effective 7 p.m. on September 30. The emergency room at the main hospital location in Greenville will remain open and will expand in the next 18 months, the hospital system's CEO said.
"Hunt Regional has been spending well in excess of $15 million per year to maintain operations at these two locations, and we just can no longer afford that expense," said CEO Lee Boles
