More than a year after the city’s troublesome switch to a new utility billing system, Billings water customers continue to question whether they’ve been hosed.

More than 240 people have signed a petition since Sept. 19, urging the city to look into the billing issues again.

Thousands of Billings ratepayers questioned charges after being hit with higher than expected water bills in the summer and fall of 2024.

Their frustrations prompted the city to hire the Minneapolis-based consulting firm SL-serco to audit the utility system.

The $51,000 investigation found no evidence of systematic overbilling and confirmed the city’s water meters were reading accurately, according to findings released in February when the audit concluded.
