A career night Oct. 8 will offer high-schoolers and their families information about joining the military.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the program starts at 6 p.m. at Skyview High School, 1300 N.W. 139th St. The event is open to the public. Desserts and beverages will be available.

The featured speaker is Lt. Col. John Scott of the U.S. Army. Jim Gray, Vancouver Public Schools executive director of learning and schools, athletics and security, will speak as a district representative. Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle will also attend and make a presentation.

Topics that will be covered include the “differences between military academies and ROTC programs, scholarship opportunities and the application process (including the nomination for military academies),” according to the event flyer.
