TUSKEGEE, Ala. ( WSFA ) - Lt. Col. George Hardy, one of the original Tuskegee Airmen, has died, Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. announced Friday. He was 100.
According to a social post by Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., Hardy fought in WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
At the start of his career, Hardy, at 19, was the youngest Red Tail fighter pilot to fly his first combat sortie over Europe.
During WWII, Hardy completed 21 missions while stationed in Italy.
“His legacy is one of courage, resilience, tremendous skill and dogged perseverance against racism, prejudice and other evils. We are forever grateful for his sacrifice and will hold dear to his memory,” Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.’s post reads in part.
Only 13 Documented Original Tuskegee Airmen remain alive today.
