COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) -The city of Columbus has set a curfew for one part of uptown Columbus to prevent crime and make it feel safer for everyone, including small business owners and their customers.

This curfew was sparked by the deadly shooting of an 18-year-old Kalielah Davis on Sept. 5. The teen was hanging out with a group of her friends in a car on Bay Avenue when bullets hit her while sitting in the back seat.

Barricades and police cars will block off parts of Bay Avenue and 11th Street on Friday and Saturday nights. According to Columbus mayor, Skip Henderson, the area has already been blocked off at night for roughly a week or so, and this is to protect those in the area.
